Q: “Goat milk protein depleted tryptophan. I drink a gallon of cow’s milk per day, and according to CRON-O-meter, this has a large amount of tryptophan (1.6 g). Would the fact that this protein is saturated with tryptophan mitigate the effect that interferes with the absorption of the dark triad of amino acids (tryptophan, cysteine, and methionine), or will the effect still be present?”
A (by Georgi Dinkov): Animal studies have show that consuming complete protein such as milk or eggs results in lower serotonin levels in the brain. I think the effect is due to the fact that complete protein triggers muscle protein synthesis and as such not much tryptophan gets to reach the brain. So, keeping protein intake high should keep brain serotonin levels low. You can amplify the effects even more by adding some BCAA’s to the milk or eggs you consume.
