I’m not sure if you’ve taken antibiotics, but you probably still know about them.
I finally got myself a two week course of doxycycline and I’ve been wondering if I should prepare for the course in some way. Vitamin K is what Peat recommends, because antibiotics kill off the bacteria that produce it, so I got it, but I’m mainly wondering about how I should keep eating.
At the moment I’m eating commercial strawberry jam, I find it to be easy to digest even though it has additives (pectin, potassium sorbate and citric acid), and lactose free milk. I’m not nearly as bloated from the jam than from juices and it keeps me satisfied longer.
Do you still think I should try changing the jam to a juice (apple or blackcurrant) and sugar while I’m on the antibiotics? My thinking is that they would hopefully digest better during the course and feed less bacteria than they do now, and less than the jam too.
Consuming a probiotic yogurt will populate the gut with more benign bacteria.
